Depression facts to take responsibility of your condition
Knowing more about depression is the key to getting over depression! Here are some depression facts that have informed my personal truth about how to treat depression.
Clinical depression treatments are heavily, and controversially discussed. When you ask health professionals, you get all sorts of different answers. Psychiatrist and physician have a ‘uni-versal’ view on what works and what doesn’t work. They usually follow the medical model of the Western world, and its indoctrinations. They leave little room for alternative interpretations.
I prefer the ‘multi-versal’ view on how we can experience the world. Often naturopathy, homoeopathy, nutrition science, TCM, Ajurveda, acupuncture, and massage offer a broader perspective on clinical depression treatments.

- Depression statistics show that around 19 Million American adults and around 10% of the 18 year olds (teenage depression facts) and older are affected by depression in a given year. This includes depressive disorder such as major depression, dysthymia, and bipolar disorder.

- Over 1 million of pre-schoolers are clinically depressed, and take anti-depressants.
- Children’s depression facts state the the increase rate of depression among children is as high as 23%.
- In Western, high developed countries 15% of people have severe depression.
- The most affected are women with 30%. Men’s depression facts were thought half of that of women, but new figures are higher.
- Over 50 % of people think of depression as personal weakness.
- Over 40% of women fell too embarrassed to seek help.
- Only 20% of depressed people receive treatment.
- Only 8 % of African-American men are treated for depression
- Depression facts and statistic show that completed suicide is as high as 15 %.
- After heart disease, depression will be the second largest death cause by 2020 (studies have shown that depression is contributing to lethal coronary heart disease)
- Compared to any other physical disorder, depressed people have the highest number of absent days from work, and employers have to yearly pay over US$ 50 billion for absenteeism and productivity loss, disregarding bills for doctors and depression medication.
